What is a Kona Koncept?
It is anything that carries with it the raw excitement and untamed beauty of the big island of Hawaii. It doesn’t always follow rules, and the landscape may change. It’s a place as varied as rain forests and lava plains. It’s a state of mind and heart. It’s coming off an 8 foot drop in and hitting glass while surfing (gliding!) through and out of the white water. It’s a magic and a feeling that can’t easily be described, but those who have ventured near the mouth of Kilauea will know exactly what it means.
Kona Koncepts exists to give us an easy name to identify (with a slightly oft kilter spelling) but we are here to create stories, games, animation that are rooted in the concepts (koncepts?) of what it means to carry the name Kona. We also LOVE the coffee, the real thing of which if you haven’t had 100% pure Kona coffee, than you haven’t had Kona coffee...
Our creative projects all exist primarily for FUN. However, they are also rooted in the culture, history, traditions and mythology of Hawaii. We find the spirit of Hawaii to be an everlasting font of inspiration for our projects. And we hope you find your way back here as often as the islands themselves continue to call legions of travelers back to their shores for relaxation, restoration and renewal. It’s that kind of place...
Kona Concepts is owned by Kent Silveira, who has over a decade of experience in animation and new media. At Walt Disney Feature Animation he was a production coordinator supporting films such as The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Toy Story 2, Atlantis: The Lost Empire and Treasure Planet. He was also story editor during the launch of Blue Dream Studios' "The Dreamland Chronicles", one of the first online comics ever created using full CGI (computer generated images).
During this time he also developed custom production management software for Walt Disney Feature Animation, NBC Universal, lynda.com and Apple. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Film Studies from UC Santa Barbara, and a Master of Fine Arts in New Media Production and Design. He has also been privileged to pass the torch of knowledge along, as a teacher at Agoura High School and Pepperdine University, as well as serving on an advisory board for developing video game design curriculum standards for K-12 in the state of California.
Kent Silveira is also currently serving as Chief Creative Officer at the Pegbar Animation Studios alongside former Disney animator Anthony Williams.
